I am so shocked that with the amount of children suffering with ADHD some teachers still seem to believe that it is just lack of discipline and that they need to be whipped into shape.
I heard from a teaching assistant at my child’s school that their new teacher, for September, had been heard to say, ‘I’ll get her to sit still by xmas’, good luck with that Child Whisperer. Tell you what, if you can by xmas, I’ll eat my ‘Raising girls with ADHD’ book.
Why is it they find it so difficult to understand that it is a very valid issue? Do they not think that most parents that have a child with ADHD will not have tried absolutely everything in their power to help their child? We are not simply putting a ‘naughty’ child down to ADHD, as an excuse because we don’t know what to do with them so we just want to label them.
My heart has had to toughen up over the years as I have tried to calm my daughter down as she has a meltdown, whilst being judged by other parents. The last thing I need is for teachers to join in and look at me like some ditz who just hasn’t a clue how to control my child. Honestly, I’m sick of it. Get some training, read a book or two and get yourself up to date with ADHD.
