Met (new) friend for coffee with our daughters. Ordered drinks including two mango juice drinks for the girls plus various naughty nibbles including a muffin. Waitress takes order and returns and said the variety of muffin ordered was not available, next choice requested. Waitress returns and says that flavour also not available (didn’t she think to check what WAS available in the first place?). Third choice finally arrived. After a bit us mums noticed our daughters were not drinking and asked if they were enjoying their drinks. They said that the drink tasted ‘strange’. I had a sip and it was distinctly ‘off’. Waitress called over and asked for another drink. Waitress said that they could only have a drink of the same value as the one ordered. The girls didn’t like the other available flavours and asked for cokes. No, ma’am, you can’t have cokes as this was 16 Dhs and the juice was 22 Dhs and 22 Dhs had already been punched into the cash register. What??! Easy, take away dodgy drink, remove from bill and replace with coke. No problem. Manager came over and said that if we didn’t accept drink of same value the waitress would have to pay for the loss out of her own wages!! WHAT??!! I said you will not do that and if she liked we would call the police to sort this out. I requested the bill, minus juices, paid and left. Came home, emailed head office (a UK company of many years standing) and explained the experience we’d had. Charming reply reassuring me that as a franchise this branch was being shut down due to problems. Thank goodness. To the lady with the dress issue in previous vent – email the head office of the company – it may be all that is needed to stop these cowboys!
