I am already an avid recycler and I absolutely detest consumer packaging that is in excess, so you can imagine when someone brought to light the other day the crime that is, TOOTHPASTE BOXES. It hit me like a ton of bricks (or boxes..) Why the hell does toothpaste come in boxes? You literally unpack them from your shopping and discard the box (hopefully into the recycling) before the toothpaste even makes it up the stairs to the bathroom! So, why, oh why, is it there??
Everyone uses it! (Or should be using it blurgh!) so imagine how many boxes are simply thrown into the bin on a weekly basis? Oh and please don’t reply and say it’s for stacking reasons or transport reasons. There still has to be a better way to produce toothpaste without the necessity of a box.
To be fair, there are lots of products I could list that could abandon the box and some companies are, for example Max Factor mascara simply comes in the ‘tube’ with a security strip seal. But, when you walk down a toothpaste aisle, all you see is boxes and this is so very wrong and unnecessary. Vent finished, but not over! I want to hear from some of the major toothpaste companies on this!
