A break up is hard enough anyway.
There is anger and repentance and blame, maybe some guilt and some more anger and throw in some bitterness and pain.
A break up in the modern digital age, is doubly difficult.
It is so much harder to get perspective and any distance from the broken relationship when a sarcastic or bitter comment is only a status update away.
It takes self discipline not to look at the ex’s profile, to try and get an idea of how they are feeling? Are they still upset, still angry, still heart broken? Are they missing me? Did they use that emoji as a sign to me? It’s so different to REAL life break ups. A face to face, an argument, hopefully a mutual decision to move on, to not look back, to agree its for the best.
There is nowhere to vent unless you block your ex. Yet, blocking is so extreme. Maybe the relationship started due to social media. Maybe it was an illicit relationship found only on social media and not in person.
Then there is the 2am, after a bottle of wine moment. The passive stalking and maybe an angry comment on an old post. That in REAL life, would have been a passing moment of weakness that no-one would have to know about.
All break ups are difficult. Try not to make them worse on social media.
