I’m so sick of the way people view those of us who specifically verify if something is gluten/dairy free.
We are NOT following a fad diet and not pushing it on our kids.
Getting eye rolls, being asked if it’s an allergy or we just like subs, being chewed out because we are withholding cake from one child and she deserves milk and butter filled cake or cheesy macaroni.
I now tell people if they ask why I’m asking for the gluten sensitive menu that if I eat food with gluten, I’ll be sick shortly after I eat. I go into explicit detail and the same with what happens if my 3 year old eats that golden cake or mac n cheese.
I can ignore the eyeroll when I ask, the smirking or the annoyed expression. If you’re a waiter, it’s your job to not poison your guests and it’s not your job to see if you feel their medical conditions are worthy of the special menu requests.
