I work in a software company and it sounds like some of my colleagues expect to be paid for simply coming to work. We recently had our yearly raises and they’re already complaining about not getting enough, but the people who are complaining are pretty much all of the people who don’t meet the work quota we set! They come in late, spend half their time on their phones or picking that special work playlist on Spotify or something, and then complain.
Pay raises are merit based – you work well and you get paid well. I know we all want more money, hell I wouldn’t say no to a million dollars if they were to drop on my head tomorrow, but have some decency to realize this is a business and we’re adults!
I mentioned it’s a software company so you can imagine how much the job pays. It’s significantly more than most other people get…
So maybe you don’t need to live in that fancy neighborhood and go to all the expensive restaurants multiple times a week, or eat takeout for every meal. Maybe you don’t need to buy an all new car and have an expensive phone and multiple gaming systems, I don’t know. Or if you really want all those things – stop complaining about the salary and realize that your standard of living doesn’t match your chosen profession!
I have kids and somehow I make do just fine with my salary (and no, my spouse doesn’t make that much more) and even save some and go on vacations with the kids.
This is not some old person raving against millennials, we’re all the same age. Were they given too many participation trophies as kids? I’m so tired trying to relate to their complaints.
